If you're Martha Stewart, you can make a pie pie look like this:
You don't have to be Martha Stewart to make an impressively gorgeous pie. People will already be impressed you made a pie at all. The slightest effort to spruce it up will yield big results.
If you want really impress, take just a couple extra steps to make a simple pie fancy. It is deceptively easy to add real WOW to any pie.
Fancy up your pie by using a lattice top, or adding decorative shapes - cookie cutters are an excellent tool for making top crust pie art.
It's simple: Roll out the top crust, figure out where the center and edge of the pie will be, then use the cookie cutters strategically (and as a bonus, the holes you just cut will serve as steam vents). Then you can either stick the pieces you cut out back on top somewhere or just discard them. Alternatively, you can leave the top crust intact, roll out the excess crust you have, and cut shapes out of that to place on the pie.
You don’t even have to go high-tech. You can simply cut a shape into the crust with a knife.
